Save money with Media Write
- check out the time
saving benefits and
capabilities of our digital studios
below.
CD mastering is the art of assembling and finalizing an album for
professional CD release. This includes advanced equalization and
multi-band dynamics processing to get the most out of the media format
chosen. For example, optimizing your tracks for radio release is not
the same process as optimizing for a pro CD release. Ultimately the
goal is to do as little as possible to the material.
During the mastering process we get very honest with
you. We'll tell you if there are any problems and discuss what can be
done. You may hear things you don't want to hear, or didn't realize were
happening during recording. If there were any problems during the
recording process, we can fix them, regardless of where they were
recorded. Issues like sibilance, plosives, analog noise, buried vocals,
stereo image problems, phase issues and much more can be corrected without
affecting other parts of the recording.
Mastering equalization (one method shown below) should be as
minimal as possible. This is not the time to try something new.
Mastering is the last step before you release your heart and soul to the general
public. You want your material to be at its best. We'll listen to
your music in different environments, through various monitors, and show you
what can be done and the difference before and after.

Mastering EQ - Multi-band parametric plus high & low shelving EQ with visual
display.
Multi-band dynamics (pictured below) allows us to work on
the dynamics of one frequency
range of a recording without ever touching the surrounding frequencies. Maybe
you'd like your highs to sparkle and sustain a bit more, or you'd like the kick drum to be a
little more punchy. We can add some light compression to the low frequency
band without affecting the mids or highs. Try that with any normal
compressor.

Benefits of
working with Media Write Mastering
- We can achieve superior results in less time with our state of the
art digital studio. More time in the studio always means more
money so this saves you on project costs.
- Improve your studio tracks by having them
digitally mastered by Media Write professionals with decades of
experience. We have the tools and the expertise to maximize your
material - make it sparkle and shine.
- Fresh ears - You've heard your music many times before. We
haven't, and that's an advantage for us. We aren't biased by
which track is a favorite, or which instrument you played on the
track. We're completely honest about how things sound, and what
can be done (or preferably not done) to make your music its best.
- Get into a new environment away from where
the tracks were recorded or mixed. Change things up a bit.
This keeps you from putting all your eggs in one basket so to speak.
Having your music mastered by someone other than your recording
engineer makes the entire process more credible. Get a second or
third opinion on things. More people listening will generate
more credible input to the final product. In the end it's still
your decision.
- Even things out. Media Write will make sure that your album
flows naturally from one song to the next. Master the album such
that one track is not louder than the rest. Silence between
tracks should not be suspenseful or rushed.
- We'll provide you with a finalized master
ready for mass duplication. Your digital master will conform to
all required specifications like red book. If you don't want 500
CDs like most companies maintain as their minimum order, Media
Write can help you with smaller runs duplicated right in our studios.
That way you can get your merchandise table up and running for shows
and start making money on your project.
Capabilities
Our digital studio maintains a pristine signal path up to 96KHz.
This is more than double the bandwidth of standard CD quality.
Processing in the digital domain keeps you from losing a generation via
analog transfer, as well as keeping the noise floor, at the very least -
where it was when you brought it in. We can even remove or reduce an
existing noise floor without damaging your material. This is done
with digital tools like FFT analysis and DSP subtraction of underlying
noise patterns. This is so much faster than standard analog
techniques.
- Optimize your master for radio airplay
- Full parametric equalization and dynamics
processing for your master means that it will be as loud and clear as it
can be for best results on radio. In today's broadcast marketplace
you need your tracks to sound as good as everything else on the radio.
We make it happen with advanced dynamics processing.
Remember - Just because we have huge amounts of
processing power doesn't mean that it should be used. Some of the
best recordings ever made were done with little or no processing.
-
- Warmth in the digital domain - yes it's possible!
- We can include external processors and analog equipment into our
digital environment. This is another advantage of working with
Media Write. Many digital studios don't have this capability.
It means that once you're happy with things, we can make it even better
by sending it through a nice warm tube stage before creating the final
master, cleaning up what some call "that digital edge".
-
- Analog Phase Issues
- Absolute phase coherency. This is
normally only an issue if you think your media might get played over a
mono system such as TV or a small PA system. Once we digitize your
media, our processing will maintain the phase relationship from left to
right as it was when you mixed it. If your music already has phase
problems, we can correct them easily and quickly - another time and
money saver. Some analog processors change the phase of the stereo
image. This can cause problems when your music is played back on a
mono system such as a TV broadcast. Most stations are broadcasting
in stereo these days, but not everyone has a stereo Television or video
recorder.
